Baby Cora Joins the Family

I had a lovely time with my beautiful friend, Shannon, and her wonderful family. They are overwhelmed by the love they have for their new baby, who fits seamlessly and perfectly into their family. Sarah and Emma are the most enthusiastic big sisters-bonus mommies and little Cora Rose is a gem.

We created a mini family film HERE and these are a few of my favorite images.

Good Times with Joe, Kari and the Kids

There's a big, warm, soft spot in my heart for this family.  We met Joe and Kari when they came on staff at our church and a couple years ago they were sent over to be lead pastors in Gig Harbor. Even though we don't get to see them weekly, we do sure love the week that we serve on their team at kids' camp each summer. They are the real deal, as fun as they look and with the faith, character and integrity that we have seen faithfully displayed in their lives. Their kids are so fun too and I had a blast with them taking some family portraits recently. Here are a few favorites!

Big Smiles

I so enjoyed all the personality going on with Bo, Lux and Troy! These three are busy and funny and warm and I hope that the pictures we took together will always help their parents remember the joy of this season!  We did two locations, some dressier at a church and then in a field with beautiful evening light. Here are a few favorites!

Charlee in the Golden Light {Auburn Newborn Photography}

It's no secret that I'm a lover of golden light. The creamy warmth just seems to highlight each subject. It's been a while since I've done a newborn session in the evening light but Miss Charlee slept through the whole thing without a peep, which gave her family the perfect opportunity to cuddle up and snuggle her in the warmth. I'm loving what we got! High fives to big brother Izzy who is such an affectionate fellow and to Daizy and Jacob who are very easygoing and so fun to work with!

Heather and Her Sweethearts

All summer long I was loving the daily,  pictures my friend, Heather, was posting of her kids: backyard camping, swimming, day trips and Sawyer running around the backyard in his undies. What fun it was for me to photograph this mama on the other side of the camera with her sweeties. Scarlett and Sawyer are fun monkeys and love to tease each other and their mama. Love that we got a bunch of them playing around on our night together.

Growing {Auburn Family Photography}

What a joy it was to meet up with this wonderful family! The light was absolutely perfect as they all sailed in from different directions...lots of schedules to coordinate! It was fun to add in a boyfriend and a fiancee this year and my guess is that this family is going to grow as the years go by....and they are pretty happy about it. I have to say, it's a  special thing to have families like this in our lives who are a few steps ahead with growing amazing families as we are navigating these years.

We're looking forward to seeing you at Ashlea and Braden's wedding.....next week!!

Kim's Favorites {Auburn Family Photography}

What a joy it's been to become friends with many of the wonderful people who have taken my photography classes. Over the past few years, I've gotten to know Kim as someone who loves the Lord and loves her family.  It was a joy to me to meet her husband and awesome kids and to document them all together. They were a good time and we laughed at lot and the icing on the cake was when Kim shared that as they got home, her 11 year old commented that it was really fun....I'd call that success!  Here are a few of their portraits and silhouettes that we captured.

Hockey Sticks and Jumping High {Auburn Family Photography}

I had a great time with this family the other evening, documenting their family and we even got to include grandma in the pictures too which is always a treat. These boys were fun and did a great job, even staying mostly clean while they explored!  There was one point at the river, where an interesting man strolled out in knee socks and what looked to be underwear or a very small swimsuit so we all were trying not to laugh too much!  It was fun to create some silhouettes at the end with their hockey sticks and also they showed me their amazing jumping skills.

Family Portraits with Astro {Auburn Family Photography}

I had such a lovely evening with this awesome family a few days ago. I have to say, these kids were amazing but the fact that I did their session the day after I was wrangling my own kids for a few pictures made them seem pretty PERFECT. Even Astro was rocking the family pictures, even when I called "him" a "her" too many times!  It was fun to visit and get to know them as we did their session and I left, reminded of why I love family photography so much!

Forever a Family of Six

I admire this family so much. A little over two years ago, they received the devastating news that their beautiful daughter, Avery, was diagnosed with the worst childhood cancer, DIPG, which presently has a 0% cure rate.  They fought fiercely and tenderly cared for their girl who passed away seven months later. They have grieved deeply and still chosen to honor her by working hard to raise funding for other children and families who have and will be receiving this terrible diagnosis as well.  They have raised awareness and invested compassion and friendship towards those in this community that deeply need to be cared for by those who understand.

They have honored Avery in so many ways. They have loved each other well, been honest and raw with their pain, and even in the middle of feeling shaken to the core they have reflected the love of Christ and have shared the legacy of their daughter.

Like school milestones and family trips and a hundred other things, family pictures are a very real reminder that they should have their sparkly girl standing with them.  She should be showing off her fresh summer dress, and grinning with her siblings. Yet, even in the loss of her being with them physically, I believe that they honor her in documenting their family love, her amazing siblings, and the fact that she is and always will be so much a part of them. I think it's brave.

I also believe that if Avery had a little window from heaven to see her family, she would be delighted to see them all together and she probably would have had a good laugh too at her little sister striking her modeling poses for me!

I'm glad Nana and G-pa (Brenda and Tom) could come too as they are pretty special grandparents. Alex, you are so lovely and growing into a young woman. You are smart and thoughtful and amazing!  Cade, your kind heart is easy to see and I love to hear about your talent in sports. You are a good friend to many. Addison, you are sparkly and full of a million questions. Your joy is a blessing. Brandon and Amanda, you are loving and leading your family so well. God has good things ahead for you all.

Four Grandparents, Two Parents, One Dog and a Sweet Little Dude

I had the best time with Mathis and his family recently. This sweet little boy has grown so much since his newborn pictures and is soaking up all the love that's around him. What a special photo shoot to document this season, especially with one set of grandparents visiting from England. They were all such a fun and easygoing bunch and I laughed through most of it.

At Home {Tacoma Family Photography}

I loved the idea of coming to Lauren and Andy's home to document them hanging out with their little boys. The season of life is so very busy and hands on at these ages that it will be so fun to look back and see what their life looked like. Their house was so charming and decorated with thoughtful pieces and art and then we played a bit in the back and then walked in their neighborhood and caught a few portraits near the local university. Lots of hugs, tickling, running, a wee meltdown and lots of love...

Growing Up {Auburn Family Photography}

It's been a while since we've had a chance to do a family update and it was clear that it's time as these girls are growing into gorgeous young ladies!  In fact, mom was getting teary as we were doing their portraits. So glad I had the opportunity to document this wonderful family!

At the Beach {Family Photography}

I was so thrilled to meet up with these friends from our community. They received this session as a gift from grandparents and we were happy to have found a date and a sunny evening at one of their favorite places, the beach.

I'm not quite sure how they bribed their kids to be absolute superstars all evening but they were pretty much perfect....and really fun to hang out with.

Here are some favorites...

Family Fun at the Marina

I had so much fun with this awesome family the other night. With littles we do a lot of playing, snacks, moving and laughing and it's always the craziest that are my favorites.  It is a treat for me to do extended family sessions, especially when there's a grandma smiling this big.

Some of Our Favorites {Auburn Family Photography}

Sometimes I'm amazed at how God can bring people into our lives. Alana and I met in the nursing moms' room at church. Filled with rockers and a big screen tv to watch the service, most of the moms get chatty instead of watching....surprise, surprise. Alana and I would bump into each other there week after week as we rocked our baby boys. Fast forward a few years and we consider their whole family dear friends. They are our apprentice leaders of our lifegroup and live just a few blocks away. They are funny and generous and loving. What a gift it is to be known and loved.

I was so thrilled when they wanted to do a family film when I started doing them this year and so we did a little package deal. We spent one night filming and I'm still having fun putting their film together (it will be shared in the next little bit!)  Then we spent the next evening doing some family portraits. In the film, you'll see how cute their house is and it will be great to add some updated pictures to their walls and galleries. Yay!

Looking Forward to Baby {Auburn, WA Maternity Portraits}

I had a wonderful evening with Ilianette and her family, celebrating their anticipation for the little boy that will join them this summer. There's an amazing big sister and brother who are so excited and I know this little one will be very, very loved! Here's a preview of their pictures.

Sunshine Girls {Golden Light Portraits}

Sometimes windows of opportunities open up and this evening was one of them. The weather was finally nice and as I was driving by this field earlier in the day, I saw some of the lupines starting to bloom between the Scotch broom.  I texted my dear friend and her daughter to meet me with Ruby that evening while our boys were on a scouting overnight to take a few pictures in the flowers.

Alivia has one of the tenderest, loving hearts I know. She loves the Lord and people purely and has a generous personality. She wraps others in her care and thoughtfulness. To know her is to love her and she has a big circle of us around her who are attracted to her warm and sunny heart. She's almost ten and it was so special to take some pictures of her and her mom together to celebrate. What a gift these girls are to us!

Easy Smiles {Sumner Mini Session}

What a treat it was to meet up with my friend, Meg, and her family last week for a mini session update! Meg is a photographer and knows the value of being in pictures with her family. The kids were hilarious and so easy peasy to work with. I think you can feel the love in these pictures! Thanks, Meg and Max!
